Ideas for Graduation Announcements
Your graduation—your memories. Your announcement—your story.
According to Dr. Christie Chung, Cognitive Psychologist and Provost at Palo Alto University, “Storytelling is often the best way to connect with people…” Here are five popular photo card designs to bring your good news story to people who care about you.
1. Look Who is Graduating
It’s the graduate’s moment in the sun, and Mixbook’s Look Who Is Graduating card makes that clear. Kicky cursive lettering spells out “Guess who’s graduating!” on the top of the card. Under it, a collage of five snaps of the happy grad. Their name, school and graduating year is printed across the bottom. The reverse side holds one special image.
2. Gilded Border Graduation
Aunt Em back in Kansas may not make the flight out to see graduation. But with Mixbook’s Gilded Border Graduation announcement, she’s sure to appreciate how important the occasion is to the family. The graduate’s photo is on the front, bordered with foil, with his or her name in big letters across the bottom. Another borderless image is on the back.
3. Ciao, High School
This graduation announcement stands out from the pack. The Ciao, High School graduation announcement has “Ciao” right on the front, big and bold and colorful. The front has an offset photo against the bottom right of the card, with a thick white border on the top and left side, edged by a tan border. The graduate’s name runs vertically beside the photo. The back has room for two images, also offset.
4. Graduate Script on Black
It’s rare to see a graduation announcement in black, but I’ve gotta tell you, it looks good, almost European, drama without glitz. The Graduate Script on Black announcement features thick black borders around a photo, with “graduate” in thin white cursive catty-cornered across the top. It’s clear this graduate is going somewhere! Four offset photos fill the back.
5. Fun Grad Letters
Here’s one of the fun announcement styles we promised you. Mixbook’s Fun Grad Letters features four big, bold, colorful letters that say it all: GRAD. They hover around the graduate’s photo, while the name, school, and year appear on the bottom. The back of the announcement has one big image as well as room for the graduate’s future plans.
6. Pixel Grad
Mixbook’s Pixel Grad is another standout announcement option—undeniably eye-catching. The entire left half of the front blazes in sunrise shades—brilliant rose and yellow—with the grad’s name smack in the middle. The other half presents an image of the happy graduate. A second big photo of the celebration can go on the back of the card, along with an announcement of their future plans.
Frequently asked questions about custom graduation announcements
Got questions about grad announcement cards? Take a look at the answers below.
How much information do you have to include on graduation announcements or invitations?
Don’t worry about giving all the details in a graduation announcement. It’s not necessary. Only the bare bone details should be included on announcements, like the graduate’s name, their school and their class. For invitations, however, do include the who, what, why, where, and when about the ceremony or celebration.
Does a graduation announcement indicate that the person receiving it is invited to the ceremony?
No, a mailed graduation announcement is just an announcement, letting the people who care about the graduate know of their accomplishment. It does not imply that the person is invited to the graduation ceremony. Do not include any information about the time of place of the ceremony. An announcement card is just a simple and traditional way to let people know that the milestone has occurred.
Should the primary photo on the announcement show the graduate in their cap and gown?
There are no rules about this issue. The graduate might prefer more casual photos instead, and that works just as well as a cap and gown. The same goes for photo collages for the announcements. It’s always best to include images that bring up memories of happy times.
Do the graduates or their parents send out the announcements?
Again, there are no hard and fast rules. Some graduates might want to involve themselves in picking the announcement, but parents can offer to address the envelopes. Adult and mature graduates are more likely to handle announcements without their parents’ input. By the way, every announcement ordered comes with premium white envelopes.
